Abstract

The continuous degradation of natural resources and the demand of food due to the growing population, force us to look for new technologies to get a better, profitable, integral, and continuous use of the few available resources to produce food on rural areas. Some people usually say that the technological proposals to small farmers of subsistence do not get their objectives to contribute on rural development because of their partial use. Due to several reasons, modern technology has not been adopted, such as, the expensive cost of technology and the high risk included which are not considered while doing the proposal. In addition, new technology sometimes does not consider all the small farmers activities. This work intends to show that the production technology of edible mushroom is an alternative for food production, employment and income sources on rural areas, all this based on the appropriate requirements of technologies whose purpose is the improvement of small farmer ?s way of living without destroying natural resources and cultural values.
