Abstract

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a tropical crop from the American continent, adapted to acid soils with low fertility. Cassava meal can be used as an energetic feed for ruminants and the leaves of the plant as a forage source. There are no toxicity problems from the cianogenic glycosids present in the root because they are degraded in the rumen. Cassava meal can be used in rations for ruminants to replace partially or totally the grains.
