Abstract

Selection of the a pump unit is one of the most important steps in order to reach high efficiency in the pumping process. In doing so, the designer must know the hydrome-chanic behavior of comercial pumping equipment, generally summarized in the so called characteristic curves. Besides, the deep well vertical turbine pumps operating on the field require periodical evaluations due to performance variations caused by the depletion of the static levels of aquiferous mantle as a result of over-exploitation. The numerical calculations involved in these agricultural engineering activities are time consumming. To this date, there is not a computer system which incorporates all the necessary aspects to do such tasks. Therefore, a computer system for PC IBM-compatible was developed for obtaining and drawing comercial pumps? characteristic curves from laboratory data, selecting pumps to meet specific requirements, and evaluating deep well vertical turbine pumps through the performance curves obtained. The system called CURCAEV, facilitates the creation and maintenance of a data base which is accessed to obtain the characteristic curves which are used for the selection and evaluation of pumps.
