Abstract

Patterns of nitrogen extraction in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown under different environmental conditions were obtained by statistical models. Analysis of these patterns and derived parameters indicated that dynamics of nitrogen accumulation in the head is related to dynamics of extraction from leaf and stem. The decay of nitrogen in leaf and stem after maximum accumulation represents an average of 55 % of the total amount accumulated in the head. The patterns of nitrogen extraction can be useful for making fertilizer recommendations in wheat, to determine the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers, and to provide information for the breeding process.
