AN EXAMPLE OF SPECTRAL ANALYSIS APPLIED TO APPLE PRICES
Keywords:
Malus spp., prices, seasonal effect, agricultural economyAbstract
Spectral analysis is used to study periodic phenomena; e. g., those that occur in agricultural production. To do so, one alternative is to estimate seasonality indexes; however, with this approach period definition is unclear, while in the spectral view the period is the unknown variable. This paper reveals analytically the presence of a 12-month seasonal effect in the behavior of U. S. A. apple (Malus spp.) market. From an applied point of view, the presence of periodic components is important since they allow the planning in advance of the strategy to follow in the market.Downloads
